OpenIMS was started as a project in 2004 within the Fraunhofer FOKUS research institute, to evaluate the behaviour and performance of NGN architectures. In 2006 it was published as Open Source and it quickly became a reference for the world-wide NGN community.
The original development team changed their focus to the OpenEPC project between 2008 and 2014. In this interval development continued as the modules were adopted in the Kamailio IMS project.
In 2013 Core Network Dynamics was founded as an independent enterprise providing today the technology and solutions that shape mobile networks beyond 4G for both research and commercial usage. For the future we plan to revive the OpenIMS brand, be leveraging and enhancing the latest Kamailio IMS code base towards providing VoLTE capabilities along with the OpenEPC seamless IP connectivity capabilities.
